Story

WE DID IT!!!!

On Saturday 31st July we started our 24 hour 3 peaks challenge.  With a departure time of 1703 to climb Ben Nevis we were up and down just inside 5 hours.  A long drive to Scafell Pike avoiding stags and sheep followed and we arrived to start walking at 0425.  Conditions weren't easy on the soaking wet boulders but at 0815 we were back down and heading to Snowdon.  We started our last leg at 1312 and finished at 1640, a total time of 23 hours 37 minutes.  Thanks to all who have donated and there is still time for those who want to!

On the 31st July 2010 Michelle and I (escorted by 3 others) will attempt to complete the National 3 peaks challenge.  This involves scaling Ben Nevis in , Scafell Pike in The Lake District and then Snowdon in .  To make it even more interesting we will be attempting to do all three in less than 24 hours!  So why are we doing this?

Firstly, it’s a massive challenge.  They are 3 tough mountains and once you factor in all the travelling and lack of sleep it makes it even harder.  Those who know Michelle will know that she is super fit and loves a challenge and this one was too big for me to miss out on.  We are both looking forward to it very much although we know it will be tough!

Secondly, and for me most importantly, we wanted to raise some money for a charity very close to our hearts.  Many will know that for the last year we have been temporary boarders for dogs from Dogs for the Disabled.  This has involved looking after dogs who are undergoing specialist training to enable them to become assistance dogs.  Dogs for the Disabled trains dogs to help disabled people live life more independently. Each dog is trained in practical tasks such as opening and closing doors, helping a person undress, even emptying the washing machine. In addition they provide confidence, companionship and break down barriers to the outside world.  These are truly amazing animals trained by a fantastic dedicated team and i encourage you to look at their website to see just how much they do.

Dogs for the Disabled is a charity so they rely on donations so this challenge is a great way of doing a little bit to thank them for letting us play a part in these beautiful dogs’ lives.  Please give generously.  Whatever you can give will be massively appreciated!!

Thanks

Ian and Michelle
