I am a middle aged fat man born in London, but a Nigerian at heart. I learned many things in Nigeria, paramount being the respect for ones elders and treasure trove of wisdom that they hold, gathered over the years. Without our senior citizens we would not be here today and if one lives long enough, shall become a member of the above.
The Abbeyfield Society is engaged in providing the elderly with accommodation in a communal setting whilst maintaining their independence. Alas we live in a world where care of the elderly requires funding which cannot be fully supported by government or commercial activities.
It is this and the joy that I have in seeing our residents living in our homes that has inspired me to help in my own small way, and I hope to get fit in the process (I am suddenly thinking of KFC and mince pies, uuummmh yummy. Oh sorry - stop it Ike).
