Story

Paul Lugg passed away on 20th October 2022 following an 18 month battle with cancer. Due to the second-to-none care he received, Paul requested that, rather than flowers, donations are made to John Taylor Hospice.

Following Paul’s diagnosis of a rare peritoneal cancer in April 2021, he underwent major 8 hour surgery followed by 6 months of chemotherapy. By December 2021 Paul was declared cancer free. At his second follow up appointment in August 2022 Paul received the news that the cancer had returned, more aggressive, and was now inoperable. Within 3 weeks of this news and a failed attempt at chemotherapy, Paul was moved to John Taylor Hospice where he spent his final 6 weeks. Paul passed away on 20th October 2022 with his family by his side.

Paul’s wish for donations to John Taylor Hospice reflects the outstanding care he received and the nurses’ willingness to go the extra mile. During Paul’s time at the hospice the nurses arranged a date night for Paul and Sally to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary, gifted Paul a signed football from his beloved West Bromwich Albion and made special arrangements for both his cocker spaniel, Oakley and his toddler grandson, George to visit. The support provided to both Paul and his family was invaluable.

Anyone who knew Paul during his battle will vouch for the bravery and determination he showed throughout his fight.

As a family we have infinite special memories with Paul but the well wishes and messages we have received since his passing have reiterated the wide reaching impact he’s had on so many lives.
