For my Mitzvah project*, I chose Homeboy Industries, because they are all about giving people second chances, and I believe that everyone should get a second chance, even if someone messes up. I believe this because people should get the chance to change, and just because someone makes a stupid decision, doesn’t mean they will always agree with what they did. And people always have room to change, and Homeboy gives people the opportunity to show that they can and will change.

Homeboy Industries provides hope, training, and support to formerly gang-involved and previously incarcerated men and women, allowing them to redirect their lives and become contributing members of our community. *A mitzvah project is an expression of the values important to a young person who is becoming a Bar/Bat/B’nai Mitzvah. It’s a way of them expressing what is important to them and inviting others to help contribute to strengthening that value in the world.
