Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit the Team CHSF JustGiving page.  On the 3 August we will be running the Jane Tomlinson Mini /Junior Fun Run 1.5/2.5 Km to raise money for CHSF.  Team CHSF runners are:

Cameron and Lydia Scott, William Flatt, Nial, Freya, Lilymay & Kiera Popplewell, Jackson Clark, Ryan Thompson, Sam & Lucy Holmes, Lucas & Joel Bearder, Kirsty & Amy Doughty, William Dobson, Josh and Tyler Fresson, Dylan and Phoebe Rankin, Miles and Oscar Duncan and Poppy Clancey.

This is a Charity that is very close to our hearts, three of us running and one of us has a brother that are under the care of the children's Heart unit at Leeds.

Cameron was born in November 2006, with critical aortic stenosis.  Cameron has had a balloon valvoplasty at 4 days old, Open heart surgery when he was 3 years old for sub aortic stenosis and will require more surgery in the future as he will eventually be given an artificial valve.

Joel was born In July 2007, also with Critical Aortic Stenosis. Joel had a balloon valvoplasty at 2 days old, then endured a double-valve switch at 5 years old. Joel will require further replacement valves in the future, over at least 2 more Open Heart surgeries.

Freya was diagnosed in 2007 aged 18 months with 2 asd's,  right ventricular dilation and a floppy septum, after the doctor picked up a murmur when freya had a chest infection.  She is currently awaiting corrective surgery to close the holes.

Charlie was born  in July 2013, at his 6 week check he was found to have a heart murmur and was subsequently diagnosed with a medium sized ventricle septle defect just before Christmas.  In May at 9 Months old Charlie had open heart surgery to repair what was found to be a doubly committed ventricle septal defect and additionally a tricuspid valve annulaplasty to correct valve regurgitation post operation. The operation was extremely successful and 5 days after surgery we were back home with a happy baby and other than a neat wound from his sternotomy looking the picture of health as though nothing had ever happened.

The staff at the LGI provide exceptional care, around 400 children need open heart surgery every year and more than 40% will need long term care.  The Childrens Heart Surgery Fund (CHSF) help the childrens heart unit by funding up to date equipment, Providing accommodation and other support for children and their families, providing travel and other grants to families in their time of need, funding staff positions and training and contributing to the refurbishment of the unit’s facilities.
