Gorillas in the Mist
Fundraising for The Gorilla Organization
Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Gorilla Organization gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Helping to raise over £400,000 to fund more than 20 key projects dedicated to the protection and preservation of the gorillas. These include:
· Ranger Patrols – Working with the local authorities, the Gorilla Organization gives financial support to maintain the teams of anti-poacher rangers who work around the clock to protect the gorillas and their precious habitat. · Forest-dwelling People – Increasingly seen as conservation’s unintended victims, the indigenous Batwa people of the Virunga Volcanoes rainforest were ejected from their traditional forest homes with the creation of the national parks. Today, the Gorilla Organization helps these poverty stricken people by providing land, tools, seeds, training, healthcare, and assistance in generating income. · Education – To educate the next generation about the importance of environmental conservation, the Organization has set up Virunga Wildlife Clubs and has established more than 350 clubs in locally based schools. · Tree Planting – To prevent further destruction of the gorillas’ habitat, the Organization has established six tree nurseries around the national parks. Thousands of saplings have been distributed to villagers to plant around their fields in the buffer zone next to the parks. This agro-forestry project aims to encourage local people to take an active role in conservation. · Community Development – The Gorilla Organization works to provide local people with sustainable alternatives to entering the gorillas’ forest habitat. Projects include an agricultural training scheme; the provision of hygienic water cisterns and fuel-efficient stoves; and a micro-loan scheme that encourages small enterprises, which in turn alleviates pressure on the forest. Thanks for your continued support
