Climbing a wall for charity - sounds easy eh?
Alice and I want to make a difference to those suffering with Parkinsons and have chosen the Parkinson's society 2010 Trek the Wall experience as a great way to raise money and awareness for Parkinsons - on a personal level we're doing it for Alice's mum who has Parkinsons - so we're both very keen to do the very best we can.
It is a challenging trek, covering 80km of sometimes steep terrain in 5 days - tracing the crests of the hills and mountains, the Great Wall of China provides a challenging trekking route with sensational views.
How can you help?
Dig deep and make a donation - any amount will help us toward the target - £5600 is the minimum for the two of us but we want to raise as much as we can.
What is Parkinsons?
Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition affecting movements such as walking, talking, and writing. It is named after Dr James Parkinson (1755-1824), the London doctor who first identified Parkinson's as a specific condition.
Parkinson's occurs as result of a loss of nerve cells in the part of the brain known as the substantia nigra. These cells are responsible for producing a chemical known as dopamine, which allows messages to be sent to the parts of the brain that co-ordinate movement. With the depletion of dopamine-producing cells, these parts of the brain are unable to function normally.
