Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As you will now be aware I am running this 10k in an effort to raise funds for AVERT, an organisation that works to promote awareness of aids and services for those who have already contracted the disease.  The money I raise will directly benefit programmes in Africa.

HIV aids is a well documented problem in the continent but it still continues to be the cause of death of million of young african men and women every year.  In fact the number of deaths as an indirect result of HIV is probably far greater than any estimates because AIDS being an immune deficiency disease, makes it victims far more likely to contract other illnesses that may be the 'official' cause of death.

This is not just a problem of perpetual warfare spreading teh disease but a lack of understanding and education on the subject. Take Botswana  for example, a unique African case where multi-party elections have been possible in a relatively stable and safe environment.  Life expectancy is just 26 years old.

So give what you can and hopefully make just a slight difference.  You begin by saving the world one person at a time all else is grandiose romanticism or politics.
