Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The information about my charity cycle remains below, but as we have now completed the trip, here is a summary of our not so little expedition:

We set off from Weybridge, south London at 8am on Wednesday 1st of September and reached Oxford at 4pm after around 60miles in the saddle.

On Thursday 2nd of September, we set off from Oxford at 9am, lunched near Stratford and arrived in Selly Oak, Birmingham at 5pm after getting a little lost, and eventually covering 65miles on the day.

Friday was our much needed day off.

On Saturday 3rd of September we left Birmingham for Oxford, cycling between 9am and 4pm. At this stage, we had been lucky to have had sunshine all day everyday.

Sunday the 4th of September however, was not sunny at all. Nevertheless we set off from Oxford at 9am, and made a massive push to cover the 60miles as quickly as possible, even skipping lunch in the process. We did well to arrive back in south London by 2pm. Roughly 250miles covered in the space of 4 cycling days.

I want to thank everyone who supported me both financially and with encouragement. I am also incredibly grateful to my group, without whom I couldn't have imagined accomplishing such a feat. It is a great achievement and I am more than proud to say that between us, over £2000 has reached 3 different and very worthwhile charities!

My friends and I have decided to challenge ourselves beyond all reason, in the name of charities we each feel strongly about. I have chosen Help for Heroes.

We are planning to start our cycle on the 1st of September in south west London, and via Selly Oak, Birmingham, finish in south west London on the 5th of September.

The 250mile round trip will be the most physically and mentally intense journey I have ever taken on two wheels, and I want to use it to support our armed forces who work in unforgiving conditions, day in day out, to protect and preserve the security and democracy of the UK; they pay a high price doing a job few of us could.

Here is a quote from the founders of Help4Heroes:

“The money that we raise at Help for Heroes is used to support wounded Servicemen and women of every colour and creed and we strongly oppose any individual or political party who believes otherwise, and those who seek to use the charity’s name for their own political gain”

These are the reasons behind my motivation to push myself out of my otherwise slightly lazy mentality. Another great motivation is the people who have said that this kind of feat is impossible…for me! I hope to prove these people wrong, and raise some money for a good cause along the way.

Wish me luck please, I’m going to need it!
