Story

Friends of 14 years Jane and Kay are doing a full head shave

At Stones Hair Design Lower Earley on 31st  October 2019

In aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, Alzheimers Society
& Thames Valley Air Ambulance

Jane Berrell, 56 is a local mobile hairdresser, and mother to Scott. In a mad moment I decided to do this brave/mad thing for charity.

In 2012 I had an emergency lift in the air ambulance to the John Radcliffe which resulted in a brain op. Over the years several more followed (so no more please!). I feel eternally grateful that I didn’t have cancer in my brain just a cyst, which was unlucky & had been growing for years!!.
I know many people who have been affected by cancer, it is an awful disease and those who have the help of the Macmillan nurses are so fortunate to be supported with dignity and love.
Alzheimers also affects so many of my friends, I was very lucky and privileged to know Kay’s mum, that’s why the charities I am supporting are Macmillan Cancer Support and the Thames Valley Air Ambulance.

Kay Chamberlain, 56, is a Seamstress at Pangbourne College.  I formerly ran Weight Watchers meetings in the area, am mother of Joe, and a keen motorcyclist, taking part in the Annual Toy Run.

I lost my mother to Alzheimers 2 years ago, so am raising money for Alzheimers Society and the Thames Valley Air Ambulance.

I am known for being spontaneous, and a bit off-the-wall, so this opportunity was a no-brainer.  It will give me the chance to find out how much grey hair I have, without going through the agonies of growing it out. I’m looking forward to doing interesting things with headscarves, but hope I’m not setting myself up for cranial frostbite.  Maybe we should be doing this in summer!!!
