Story

I did it!

I completed my first ever running marathon in 5 hours 9 minutes and 26 seconds. Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me in any way for this challenge, including all the generous donations, encouragement and emotional support....I couldn't have done it without the faith you all had in me. There is still time to donate if you haven't already done so. It will all go towards helping more women and men who need the fantastic practical and emotional support that the Breast Cancer Care service can offer to them, like it did for me when I had breast cancer. For my breast cancer journey and why I wanted to complete this challenge, please read on.

Love, Jenny xxx

January 2013 marked the 5th year since my diagnosis of breast cancer. During and after the eight months of treatments for my breast cancer, which included two operations, chemo and radiotherapy, I was determined to make myself stronger by walking every day if I was well enough. Since 2009 I have completed 3 Moonwalk marathons, The Nijmegen Marches (100 miles in 4 days), two 10k events and two half marathon events, all of which, with the help and support of fantastic friends have contributed to raising over £7,500 for breast cancer charities so far.

My new challenge, to run the Edinburgh Marathon on 26th May 2013, is very scary as I have only started running training in the last year. I also started volunteer work for Breast Cancer care in September 2011 because it is an amazing charity that gives emotional and practical support so many women and men. I have experienced at first hand both as a breast cancer patient and as a volunteer, just how much their work counts towards alleviating some of the worries that accompany the initial diagnosis and consequent treatments.

I feel blessed to be fit and healthy, five years after my diagnosis. Please help me to raise as much money as possible so that more women and men will get the fantastic support that I received from Breast Cancer Care.
