Story
Well that's it all over! I completed the half marathon in 14 seconds under 1hr 50mins which is 10mins faster than I dreamed of. Thanks to everyone for their support and kind donations to Alzheimer Scotland. It's really appreciated.
Added 10K photo - that was my 'trial run' for the half marathon. Brilliant fun!
My good old mum (Helen) has had Alzheimer for a few years now and although she's a merry old dear and still seems content in herself at 80, we can all see how much she is deteriorating. Her memory is disappearing; concept of time has gone and the ability to look after herself is also dwindling. Not good.
So, I thought I’d do something a little (totally) out of character to help raise the profile of Alzheimer and aim to raise some serious donations to boot.
So what better way to suffer than attempt to run a half marathon. That’s over 13 miles! But that’s not my main worry. I now need to go and practice this running phenomenon and according to my 14 week training plan this means I need to do exercise at least 4 days a week. What? Go out and run in the freezing rainy windy dark mornings? You are kidding me. Surely it would be easier for me to donate £2000 now and stay in doors.
It gets worse. I actually need to become a runner and wear tight tracksters and sleeveless tops (exactly!) not to mention discussing the best makes of running shoes with my fellow runners.
So if the charity itself is not enough to persuade you to sponsor me then the fact I will be out running every second day for the next 14 weeks should do it. Go on, give generously…
I'd really appreciate any contribution.
Thanks, Jim.
