Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We are running along the Great Wall of China in October 2010. For 5 consecutive days we will be running sections of The Great Wall - the distances vary as the terrain and steepness can be tricky and steep in places - 6-17km runs each day, an average 11km per day across the 5 days. One stretch has 1200 steps !
This is going to be a great challenge, a fantastic experience and we are doing it for a great cause. In December 2008 our Dad died from a heart related illness, he had rapid onset of leukaemia as a consequence of the medication he had been taking and the impact on his body of all the heart medication keeping him alive. Our Dad was an ex-Army, marathon running, sqaush playing, motorbike riding, young-at-heart loon ! When he started getting breathless and feeling debilitated he was diagnosed with valvular heart disease and a few months later had a complete aorta replacement, twice, as it didnt work first time. The result was an 8 week stay in ICU and due to the amazing care he received at Glenfields Heart Hospital in Leicester he did survive. The drugs needed to keep him alive however impacted his mental agility and ability to do all of his post op activities. In our view research into preventing this kind of experience happening is more important than curing it after the event.
The British Heart Foundation is a great cause and we intend to raise the £6k that we need to enter the challenge, We
promise not to continually bombard people with events, sponsorship trials and requests too much!
Please sponsor us any amount would be great !
