Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

On February 10th 2013 the world stopped revolving with the devasting news that 20 month Tyler, the Son of my Brother Tony, had suddenly taken ill and had been rushed to Sheffield Children's Hospital during the early hours of the morning.

As the paramedics, doctors and nurses and all scrambled together to give Tyler life saving treatment we were stunned with the news that he had contracted meningococcal septicaemia and had to be induced into a medical coma in order for them to try to save his life.

After a week of various treatments including being medically paralysed and on a ventilator with ice blanket to try reduce his tempertaure from 40 degrees with numerous drips administering drugs to fight off infections and re stablise him, Tyler finally awoke.

That was the beginning, Tyler, then underwent many procedures and was in and out of theatre so many times that I have lost count.

When eventually he was stable enough to leave ICU he remained in hospital for several more weeks and is still being treated almost a year later as an outpatient.

Tyler has been so brave, he always has a smile for the nurses and the doctors (a definite ladies man!) even though he has had to endure so much for such a small child.

One year on, we are lucky to have Tyler with us now. He is now a happy 2 year old with a new baby brother, Mason and we are so proud of his strength and determination to re learn everything he could do before the illness, including eating, talking and walking even though he still suffers pain in his joints.

Tony and I are joining forces to run, walk and even crawl if we have to, round a 13.1 mile course at Silverstone on 2nd March to raise money for this wonderful charity who do so much for research, raise awareness and also to provide support to everyone who comes into contact with this terrible illness.

Did I mention that we are both complete NON RUNNERS? This is likely to be a very long 13.1 miles to the finish line :-)

Please please help us to reach our target of £300 each, every penny really will make a difference.

£35 provides 1 hour of Project Research.

£100 buys 20 packs for GP surgeries.
