I did it! What an awesome experience!
Thank you to everyone who sponsored me, I now have my grand total of £771 - unless anyone wants to add a bit more!
On 4th September I will be going to Tilstock Airfield, Whitchurch and throwing myself out of a perfectly serviceable aeroplane in the name of fundraising. Anyone who knows me will know that I am prepared to face many unusual challenges, but even I am a little bit nervous about this one. Please show your support and make it worth while.
desperately needs a hospice. This is an area of extreme deprivation and is in the top 12% of the most deprived local authorities in the country. The area has the highest incidence of lung cancer and also one of the highest death rates in the country. Of a population of 256,000, up to 1900 people a year are likely to need palliative care, which is not currently available locally. Over the last 20 years, the majority of major towns of a similar size to have been able to build a local hospice for people of their area. Walsall is now the last major town in to achieve this goal and residents must currently use hospital beds in open wards or travel to adjacent towns for hospice care. NHS Walsall is now building a fully integrated Palliative Care Centre on the former site. Walsall Hospice Charity will run a 12-bedded in-patient unit in the same building and need to fund both the purchase of beds and equipment and thereafter meet the staffing and other operating costs of the same.
