Story

Many thanks to those who have remembered Joe over the last few months and recently at Christmas (2021), your thoughts, memories and donations are really appreciated and have moved us, his family, knowing that he is still so fondly recalled.

August 16th 2021 would have been Joe's 28th birthday. We think of him and miss him every day and are so grateful to everyone who continues to remember him also. We have just visiited a tile in his memory on the wall at York City Football Stadium where he and his Dad used to go together. The lovely books about him made by friends at Chessington and London Zoos are great reminders of his life and work and the friends and colleagues who supported him - thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page to donate to the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) in memory of Joe.

Since Joe died, so many people have said what a friendly, helpful and kind person he was. Sadly he had been suffering from depression for several years and was struggling to cope with life. Joanna, Jonathan, Josh, Jacob, and girlfriend Charli are all devastated by his death and  miss him hugely.

We are so grateful to Joe's friends and zoo colleagues who raised money for MIND after he died, and now we (his family) are supporting a cause for which he himself worked and had a passionate interest.

Joe supported conservation and loved animals. He worked as a keeper at Chessington Zoo, at Hobbledown, Epsom and more recently at ZSL London Zoo where he  was part of the hoof stock team, caring for giraffes, zebra, okapis and many other large creatures.

ZSL work on conservation in over 50 countries around the world. Joe was especially fond of rhinos. In Africa, the black rhino is critically endangered, having suffered a catastrophic 96% decline from 65,000 in 1970 to just 2,300 in 1993. ZSL has been working with the Kenya Wildlife Service since 1993 to protect the species.

We would be very grateful for your donations in memory of Joe which will help ZSL to carry out their vital conservation work.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe and they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.

Thank You So Much

Jonathan, Joanna, Joshua, Jacob and Charli
