Sometimes in life, moments will knock you sideways, off your feet.

In the summer of 2013 we were told my sister has Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC).

This was one of those moments. 

Wendy is not only my sister, she is my best friend and life would be pretty meaningless without her in it. 

IBC is a rare and very aggressive disease, accounting for just 5% of all cases of breast cancer. You do not feel a lump and in some cases it just looks like a rash, so can often go undiagnosed. 

But instead of moaning about what a tough hand life has dealt us, we are getting back in the saddle to 'ride the night' . My sister, her step daughter, Jenny, our good mate Patti, great friends from China and Sri Lanka, plus a whole heap of cackling women in pink fairy lights; 2000 of us in fact (I know) will complete 100km from Windsor through the 'big smoke' and back again to Windsor, all in aid of the amazing work of three cancer charities.

By the time my sister does this ride, she will have endured the biggest challenge of her life, having been through 8 rounds of chemotherapy, undergone a mastectomy and had 5 intensive weeks of radiotherapy everyday. 

Please wish us all the luck in the world that she is well enough to do it with us, because if she is, we will be on our way to her recovery and that's the real 'yellow brick road' journey right there.

This one is for my sister and any of the hundreds of thousands of people who are battling cancer right now, have lost a loved one to or have family/friends dealing with this terrible disease .
