Story

As a Trustee of this Charity, I have decided to do this run for the very notable Laura Crane Trust which is the only UK charity dedicated to funding research specifically into cancers affecting 13-24 year-olds. The Charity also funds various measures to improve the lives of these young cancer patients whilst they are undergoing treatment. For more information on The Laura Crane Trust please feel free to ask me or visit the website at www.lauracranetrust.org

The Laura Crane Trust hopes to be able to commence work on one of our very important projects in the near future called Chatworld which a fantastic new 'virtual world' facility.

Chatworld will be a chat-room-style creation with a massive difference!

Young patients will be able to log on to this secure facility at any time of day or night to contact others going through similar experiences and benefit from mutual support. Teenage cancer patients at St. James’s Hospital, Leeds and at Weston Park Hospital, Sheffield have taken part in the early planning stages to help us design the best possible visual communication channel for them. Each of them creates an ‘avatar’ – a figure to represent them on screen. Through their avatar they can then enter a variety of settings in a virtual world…a coffee bar, a teenager’s bedroom, a shopping mall, a busy street and even a fantasy island where they can explore, sunbathe, water-ski, surf and much more! Conversations appear in speech bubbles. Our patron, Catherine Tate, is willing to have her own avatar and to drop in now and again, as is comedienne Jo Brand. Other celebrities will be approached and we may even host ‘pop concerts’ and other major ‘events’!

Costs will exceed £150,000.00 to bring this brilliant facility into being but it will be a wonderful motivational tool, bringing a whole new kind of emotional support for the young people and every penny you can donate helps the project along the way.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
