Story
On June 5th 2010 I will be setting off to walk in the footsteps of Alfred Wainwright as I make the famous 192 mile Coast to Coast journey from St Bee's in Cumbria to Robin Hoods Bay in North Yorkshire. (In fact after recent re-measuring the distance is actually nearer to 220 miles!).
Over 3 weeks my brother-in-law and I will follow this mostly unsignposted long distance footpath across Northern England taking in beautiful countryside, Youth Hostels (yes, they accommodate pensioners too!), B&B's and a seemingly endless supply of full English breakfasts!
My reason for doing the Coast to Coast walk is to raise money for the charity Cancer Research UK, the world's leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research and which is funded entirely by the public. My brother is suffering from cancer and I feel that I would like to support the work that this charity does and help them with finding a cure.
Update: July 2010 - Sadly since completing this walk, my brother has passed away. I hope you will continue to support Cancer Research UK. Kind regards John Lane.
