Well it is all over - and I have finally got my photos uploaded. Thanks very much to all those that sponsored me...

In just 3 weeks time, I will be taking part in a three day, 214 mile (345km) bike ride, along with 15 fellow TJX employees, that will take us from our TK Maxx store in Bexley Heath to Dover, across the Channel by ferry to Calais, then on to Bruges and finally to our destination: the TJX Europe Learning Centre in Brussels. As if this wasn’t crazy enough, we will be taking turns on 8 bikes that we bought in Uganda, used every day by millions of Ugandan people; these are strong, but heavy – and they have no gears and prove an endurance test just to ride...and to build by all accounts (they're currently in a hundred bits - yes even the spokes have to be put in the wheels).

So why are we doing it?

The Ugandan Community Project

Since 2007 TJX Europe has been supporting Save the Children’s work in the Western Rwenzori region of Uganda. This region is an extremely remote, mountainous area which has been affected by years of conflict. As a result an entire generation has missed out on education and infrastructure is extremely poor.

We have helped nearly 8,000 children to access quality and child-friendly basic primary education, providing them with the opportunity of a more hopeful future. This has been achieved by building 16 classrooms, teachers houses and water points, providing equipment and text books, training teachers and mobilising communities to recognise the importance of education.

However there is still much more to do and we are now looking to build on our progress by providing support that creates a long term, sustainable impact.
