Story

Dear Friends,

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. So many of my friends, family and colleagues have already been so generous so please join in and help me smash my fundraising target. I am paying my own way so all the money that you give will go directly to charity.

I am leading (very dubious description, given my current trainig status) a team of people to take on the Mount Kilimanjaro Challenge IN AUGUST although we need to get the majority of our money in before July....

At 5,895m peak, it's the highest mountain in Africa and the largest freestanding mountain in the world (and with my knees & back a substantial personal challenge....)

The purpose of the challenge is twofold:

1. We have two teams climbing 'Kili' next year in order to raise money for Guildford Town Centre Chaplaincy (GTCC). GTCC  is a Christian Charity set up by many churches across Guildford to show care and love to anyone in need in the town centre, whatever their circumstances.

GTCC runs Guildford Street Angels which many of you will know has been something I have been part of since its commencement last year. The Street Angels programme operates with support from Surrey Police and the Safer Guildford Partnership and has shown a really positive impact on crime and antisocial behaviour in our town centre

2. Secondly we are very keen to do something for African based charities whilst there - so I will spending a second week (after the climb) working alongside the Uru North Community Development Trust. 'UNCODET' is a community NGO representing 4 villages (Njari, Ongoma, Mrawi and Msuni) in the Uru area, about 30 minutes drive from Moshi town and at the foot of Kilimanjaro. UNCODET is a shining example of how communities in rural Tanzania can be proactive in working together to address common problems. This week placement will allow part of your donation to be used within this local community to pay for materials & local labour as we get our hands dirty on renovation/refurbishment &construction focused projects in the district.

This programme is close to my heart but relies on your donations (and mine)

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe & they won't sell you stuff. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

Grace & Peace y'all

Jon
