I, Jonny Amiss, and Liza Baucher plan to visit Cambodia this coming summer to the rural town of Takeo for one month. Along with the impact this will have on us culturally we have set up a placement in a local Orphanage with Global Volunteer Projects. I stumbled across the project through reading an article in a newspaper labelled: "Ten most worthwhile things to do on your Gap Year". The project caught my eye initially due to the historically rich, but brutal background of Cambodia. Namely the genocide the country endured under Pol Pot's leadership in the 1970's. However, the thing that struck me most about this particular placement was the emphasis on value for money, in terms of any excess profit the organisation makes is redistributed to the orphanage itself.

 It is also important to note that despite it saying Tonbridge School in the bottom left hand corner, we are not raising money for Tonbridge School. It is the easiest means of using the Just Giving page as the money will be sent to the School and then transferred to us so that we can pay for the trip.

 

In terms of raising money to fund the placement cost as well as flights, both of us are planning to complete a twenty mile walk along the South Downs from Ditchling Beacon to Alfriston. We kindly ask you to appreciate the length of this walk, especially considering the poor fitness levels of both parties.

 

Both Liza and I have been extremely close friends for several years and are very excited about sharing this experience together. Any donation you wish to make would be greatly appreciated by the both of us.
