Story

They think it's all over...

I'm utterly exhausted, but before passing out I just wanted to let you know that I completed 10 Kilometers around some of the finest landmarks in London, in a time of 55 mins and 30 seconds. In truth I ran a little faster than I normally do, and nearly didn't make it over the line, but kept going in the knowledge that I'd raised over £850 for British Ort thanks to your generosity.

That just about does it for now, I'm going for a snooze before the World Cup final.

Feel free to donate if you haven't already and thanks again for all your support.

Josh

Update 05-07-10  (1 week to go)

Once again, thank you to everyone who has sponsored me both on and offline so far, really appreciate it. I've over hit the target I set but still happy to receive a little more for the cause.

As you know I try to find reasons for why you might wish to sponsor my 10K run and I think this one is probably the clincher: I opened the race pack last week and to my horror runners have to be in London town at 8 in the morning. On a Sunday!! We then have to wait around for an hour or so until the race begins. So just to recap, that's a Sunday wake-up with a 6 before the two dots in the alarm clock followed by a tube ride, some hanging around, and then, and only then, a 10K run. Now if that's not worth sponsoring I don't know what is.

Anyway, a quick progress update.
Last Sunday (a week ago) in temperatures almost unheard of around these shores (25 deg C) I managed a full 7.5K with a couple of drink stops. I followed up mid-week with a quick 30-minute 5K, and yesterday I pushed it out to 9K in just under an hour in soaring temperatures once more, with no stops. I have now mastered the art of drinking whilst running, as well as getting in some good warm weather training for the big day (that no doubt will end up being cold, and wet).

As a light warm-up for the main event I'm doing a 5.6K run this Tuesday in the form of the JPMorgan Corporate Challenge in Battersea Park - good practice for race conditions (e.g. running with a number on your t-shirt) - and then I'm taking a break until Sunday when I'll be trying my best to honour your generosity, complete my first 10K and wake up before 7am on a Sunday!!

Thanks
Josh

Update 20-06-10

First of all a big Thank You to those of you who have donated thus far, it's really appreciated.

I've often thought that sponsoring people to do things they enjoy, like jumping out of planes (done, see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWGNGnHD1kg ) or walking round beautiful scenery (albeit covering 100K in a day) is all very nice but I'd be happier to sponsor someone to do something they didn't enjoy, to raise some money.

Let me tell you, I hate running. I'm sure the day itself will be good fun, 20,000 runners making their way past London's finest landmarks, no doubt being cheered on by the jubilant crowds all bathed in glorious British summer sun (so a light drizzle if we're lucky), but the hard bit is in the training. 3 weeks ago I could barely do 3K without running out of breath, having a stitch and generally feeling like I'd been hit by a truck (which is almost as painful watching England play football).

Last week I managed 7K but with a break in the middle for a stroll before getting over a hill and running the last 2 again.

With 3 weeks to go though I have just completed 7.5K (still sweating from it actually) with no walking breaks at all. The last kilometer was a bit of a push, as was the slow run up the hill on the A41 from Fiveways Corner to the Boroughs, but I got through the pain and survived.

Hoping to break the 9K mark by next week and then bring down my time a little to hopefully complete the 10K on 11th July in under an hour. Ambitious I know, but keep the money coming in and I'll keep going, doing something I hate. (Or feel free to sponsor my skydive retrospectively if you enjoyed the video).

Thanks
Josh

14-06-10

Hi, thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

One of the great sporting days in the calendar is happening in under 4 week's time and I'm looking forward to taking part, pushing myself against the other competitors and bringing some sporting pride back to England. But as soon as I've completed the British 10K in London I'll be settling down in front of the TV to watch the World Cup Final (which sadly I won't be taking part in).

So, about that 10K.... Not quite my normal form of running, which tends to be after a ball, but in a bid to push myself a little and build up some stamina for my forthcoming wedding (just 2 weeks after), not to mention looking like a hero and running in support of my future wife's charity, and to raise some money for a worthy cause, I'm hoping to run 10 kilometers in London on 11th July in the form of the British 10K.

A bit about that worthy cause. While British Ort aren't directly going to find a cure for cancer or motor neuron diseases, their educational programmes around the world may just unearth the bright spark who does. So click the link to find out more about them, then click the Donate button and give them some money by sponsoring me.

Thanks
Josh
