Story

WE DID IT!

Well as the 25th approached we’d rested, we’d taken on the carbs and proteins, we’d done the training – despite having injuries – to the book!    As we got up on the day it started to sink in, we took in what we could of breakfast, Helen with some of a bowl of Weetabix followed by pushing some baked beans round the plate, Julie with porridge and a dusting of cranberries followed by a couple of mouthfuls of scrambled egg.  We set off to meet Mike at the London Eye, pictures done we were off on the train, packed with nervous runners of all shapes, sizes and nationalities to the start – pretty straight forward....  Onto the start area, yikes a heavy shower of rain but not to worry we found shelter in one of the marquees.  A little corner to check our gels, re-tie the shoe laces and make sure the ipod was working.  Hand the bags in and off to the start.

We settled in to a steady rhythm 10 minute miles and worked through miles 1 – 10,  looking forward to the guys supporting us at mile 11 – what a boost that was, little bit further on and we got a shout from Helen Heap and her parents.   After giving Mike a shout (he was on his way back!!) we  worked towards half way, going over Tower bridge was amazing, through the Isle of Dogs and Canary Wharf just plugging away and ticking the distance off.   Along the embankment around mile 18 was tough we knew we’d done so much but still had another 8 miles to go.........  The crowd almost carried us through the last 6 miles, it was amazing and at last there it was ‘The Finish Line’   4 hours and 56 minutes after we started here it was, ‘ WE DID IT!’

Thank you to everyone who has sponsored us, at low points during our training when we couldn’t run due to injuries and when the going got tough during the Marathon it was the thought that you’d all put your faith in us and we couldn’t let you down that kept us going:

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!
