Story

To celebrate turning 40, (and, for me, in memory of my father), my lovely friend, Gemma, and I decided that it would be a great idea to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

At 19,341 ft above sea level, Kilimanjaro

is the highest mountain in Africa, a dormant volcano and the highest free-standing mountain in the world. So naturally we decided it would be the perfect way to;

  • raise money and support for charities close to our hearts.
  • remember those who died too young,
  • seriously challenge ourselves,
  • inspire goal achievement in others.
Our 7 day Rongai Route trek approaches from the north and is quieter than other trails on Kilimanjaro, and perfect for more of a ‘wilderness’ experience. It isn't an ‘easier’ route, but has shorter treks on the first 4 days and therefore more relaxed, and good for acclimatisation. Through forest, the trail climbs up to Mawenzi tarn then across the barren landscape of 'The Saddle' to base camp at Kibo. it's a tough but spectacularly rewarding ascent up to the Uhuru Peak summit via Gillman’s & Stella Points where we will feel on top of the world!

This trip of a lifetime is now here - eek! - and all donations of pennies, pounds and Kendal Mint Cake will be very gratefully received! British Heart Foundation appreciates every tiny amount given - so please check down the back of your sofa and pop those pennies in too!

Thank you!! X
