Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
You may already know about my daughter Iris and her cancer journey. My daughter Iris had a Rhabdoid tumour on her liver which was so large and life threatening that she was in intensive care for two and a half weeks in September 2008 at six months old. Iris moved on to Great Ormond Street for what ended up as nine months of chemotherapy treatment to erradicate any remaining floating cancer cells. Despite having a happy healthy year free of cancer, it has come back and she will not be given any further treatment. My mum 'Grandma Anita' and her fantastic friend Karen will be running The Great North Run to raise money for The Rainbow trust. It is a comfort to know that Mary our Rainbow Trust support worker will be there all the way. Her support is especially needed right now as she is helping us make the most of our time with Iris and is there as someone with experience to talk to in a traumatic situation. It is important for Iris to play like any other child and Mary is fantastic at cheering her up. Iris squeals when Mary comes in the door and must think she is a fun auntie, I also consider Mary a great support and good laugh - which helps me too.
We meet other families on the wards who benefit from the Rainbow Trust's support with brothers and sisters who need to play and have a break too and with treatment that is far longer or with conditions that are constant part of their lives.Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
