We fund life-changing and life-saving work to support cancer patients at The Christie

Story

Robert Broude was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer when he was only 17 years old. He lived with it for nearly 3 years and died at the age of 19 in 2004.

Rob was a patient at the Young Oncology Unit (YOU) at The Christie Hospital in Manchester. The YOU is a special unit for 16-23 year olds who have to deal with this terrible disease. Rob underwent numerous courses of Chemotherapy and radiotherapy and had 2 major operations. During all this time he continued to live as normal life as possible, continuing with his education at Manchester Grammar School where he went on to achieve 4 A levels and even managed to achieve his ambition of going to University. He spent a term at Sheffield University before he died.

His family and friends are committed to raising funds for this Unit, so far they have raised over £300,000! Robs Fund has been able to provide a new Day Care Unit at the YOU, known as “Rob’s Day Unit”, and we are continuing to raise money for better equipment and improved recreational areas, designed with young adults in mind.

Now the Christie has built a new YOU and we are as committed as ever to improving the Christie experience for young people. All the money you give will go directly into supporting this new YOU building and specifically “Robs Day Unit” within that.

Lots of people are raising money in different ways. Please help support this worthwhile cause and help us to make the lives better for those young adults who are dealing with cancer.
