Story
As many of you will be aware my amazing husband, Rick, was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in December 2014. After having a radical prostatectomy, several weeks of radiotherapy and further operations to support his health he is now fit and well. Prostate cancer has a devastating impact on a man's life and surviving it is only the first hurdle. Life after a prostatectomy can be tough - men don't like to talk about the side effects - but if you're reading this you probably already know all about them. Rick is my best friend and I am his wife, but that still didn't make it easy for him to ask for support when he needed it.
I'm raising money for Prostate Cancer UK to try and improve the aftercare and support available to men and their partners following a diagnosis of prostate cancer. Men, please get talking to each other and to us and ask for help, tell us when you're worried or scared!
....and to all you black guys out there remember that you are more at risk of developing the disease. Black men are more likely to get prostate cancer than men of other ethnicities. In fact, 1 in 4 men, will get prostate cancer at some point in their lives. We don't fully understand why Black men have a higher risk of developing prostate cancer so Prostate Cancer UK are investing in research to try and find more answers.
