Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My family think I've finally lost my senses!.
I am attempting to walk the Greensand Ridge, Bedfordshire's premier long distance footpath, at total of 40 miles in 1 day. The event takes place on 15th May, 1 week before my 60th birthday. This is 50% more than the furthest distance I've ever done in my life so it won't be an easy stroll in the park.
The day of the Walk Up at 04:00 to travel to Gamlingay & started the walk at 06:20. Do these times really exist at weekends? Day started well managing a pace of around 3.7 mph. Beautiful day for walking through lots of bluebell woods. Plenty of rabbits in evidence and a solitary muntjac deer. At 17 miles I applied some blister plasters as a preventative measure. My right foot was feeling really sore near Ampthiil (approx 25miles) & when I checked the damage, my sock was red!. I had no choice other than to pull out at the Millbrook checkpoint after 26.67 miles, which is a record distance for me and took just under 9 hours. I was gutted as my legs were feeling fine & next morning there was no hint of stiffness, just very sore feet!
Thank you to all my sponsors. I hope you don't feel shortchanged, but I promise to go back and complete Millbrook to Leighton Buzzard section once my feet have recovered. I have blisters on my blisters! It must be about time to admit I'm no longer 30:-(
I am raising money for the Bridgebuilder Trust , a charity I helped set up in the early 1990s which has, for the last 17 years, resourced a team of full time and volunteer schools workers who support the Milton Keynes schools by taking assemblies, RE and PHSE lessons. In addtion a range other projects is undertaken including Lifepath - a project focussing on the life of John Newton, a slave trader, later vicar of Olney, who helped William Wilberforce to steer the abolition of slavery bill through Parliament in 1807. The work is well repected and the team are in great demand in the schools. Your sponsorship will help maintain and develop the work, especially as the Trust hopes to employ another primary schools worker.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Milton Keynes Bridgebuilder Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
