Story
Last year, we wanted a new addition to our family. Our Spaniel Jasper was middleaged and we decided to get him a friend. We went to Dogs trust in Kenilworth. After 3 or 4 visits, each time looking at a bewildering selection of lovely dogs, we found Dixie. Dixie had been found as a stray in Ireland and been brought to Dogs trust for rehoming. We didn't know anything about her but she was such a sweetie we decided to take her home. Despite being a very young dog, Dixie didn't know how to play with toys and she wouldn't look any of us in the eye. She didn't seem to have been on a lead before and was constantly trying to escape..she even jumped out of a bedroom window at one point. Eight months on and she is a different dog....a lovely natured creature who loves to play and enjoys cuddles.
Dogs are taken to Dogs Trust for all sorts of reasons, maybe the owners are ill or too old to look after them any more. Maybe an owner has died and the dog has noone to care for it. Some dogs are stray or just unwanted.
Dogs Trust will work very hard to match you to a dog in their care. They make checks on all potential owners to make sure you are really serious about taking on such a big commitment. If you can't take on a dog yourself, you can sponsor a dog at Dogs Trust. We sponsor Podge, an elderly Springer Spaniel who lives in Wales. He sends us letters and photos! Dogs Trust do fantastic work and they rely totally on donations. So on October 18th, myself, my kids, Dixie and Jasper will be working to raise money for them. Even if you can't afford much, we'll be grateful for a small donation.
