Story
In October 2014 we (Tanya Bell, Rash Phullar, Mark Dagworthy, Kirstin Tsimas) will be embarking on an 8 day 533km cycle from Ho Chi Ming City to Angkor Wat in the hopes of raising money for the British Heart Foundation and Hope for Children.
This page is dedicated to raising money for Hope for Children …..
Mark and Kirstin both know one of the founders of Events for Namuwongo and recently met Immaculate, herself from Uganda, who works tirelessly for this charity. It was a humbling experience. When asked what the most difficult part of her job was (and you can be certain there are many) she said it was choosing which kids to give the opportunity too to go to school as they can't afford everybody. The choice is based on who needs it most, who has no family, no home and is on the street. This choice becomes even more impossible when there is more than one child in the same position. How do you chose?
This is exactly what a small group of people are trying to prevent and give the children in the Slum Community of Namuwongo, Uganda a chance to learn and build a future. Between 2012 and 2014 they aim to achieve the following:
1) Clean water
2) Life saving sanitation
3) Essential health care
4) A new school, the Hope Academy
5) Funding to educate 500 kids a year
6) Adult education services
7) Free sanitary products for girls in school
8) A long lasting relationship with Namuwongo
All those that know us girls can stop laughing because yes we are being serious, we are going to put on padded cycling pants, lots of mosquito repellent and probably moan for all 533km's.. Poor Mark and Rash!!!
Knowing we will make a difference for even 1 person will be worth all the sweat, bites, rashes and all the other "adventures" we will encounter.
It is true that one person can make a difference but the more of us that try, can make a real impact-"The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are usually the ones who do"
