Story
Friends, Colleagues, fellow Athletes!! Lend me your eyes!
A year ago this month I used the same introduction to a mail detailing the challenge set for over 200 JPM volunteers to cover as many miles in 4 weeks by walk, run, swim, cycle or row. Well, without realising when I signed up, the “prize” for completing the 602miles I managed was entry into the 2013 London Marathon. My only reservation was the ask to raise £2k. I didn’t feel comfortable after such enormous generosity last year to raise £2,010 with the thought of asking you all again. So in order to give this an edge, I’ve decided to raise my own bar significantly.
My father (whose affinity for marathons started in 1982 London when he and a friend (Tricky) ran for a colleagues son whom had muscular dystrophy) has now run 42 marathons. In 1987 he set his pb of 3hrs 16. 26 years on, I am going to attempt to beat that time. At this point, it’s appropriate to mention I have previously only run 1 marathon with training.
My pb at London 1999 is 4hrs 08. So 52mins needs to be taken off that time. This is before factoring the extra 3 inches in height I have to lug round the course (see photo)!!
So on Xmas morn, the advanced training programme began with a 6 mile run. A 15 wk ‘dry run’ intermediate test programme was completed from Aug-Nov 2012 to help prepare base fitness and test for injury as never tried this level of exercise intensity before.
Over 150 miles have been covered since Xmas, and over the next 12 weeks over 400 further miles will be run prior to the 26.2 on Apr 21
There are 783million people on our planet without safe water. It is Wateraids goal to reduce that to zero. Just £15 will save a life.
Please give whatever you can. I will do my bit knowing that lives will be saved from this.
Thank you for reading,
