We've now succesfully completed our epic ride, the 9 days were both physically and mentally tough but we enjoyed a lot of it and know that we've done Matt proud.

Thank you all for the fantastic support and sponsorship along the way which has meant that we have exceeded our £8k original target and might even beat £10k!  Matt would be doubly proud - so thank you again for your donations.

Our previous entry:

Earlier this year our very good friend, Matt Hadfield, tragically died from a heart defect which he'd only learnt about months before, and only weeks before he could have the operation which would have saved his life.  Matt was always so full of life and an inspiration to all his friends and family that we wanted to do something in memory of Matt.

 

Just prior to Matt passing away he mentioned to us that post-operation, once he was fully fit, he wanted to cycle from Lands End to John O'Groats, something we'd intermittently talked about since we were about 16 or 17.   Now a group of 6 will be taking up Matt's challenge for him with the aim of raising some serious money for charity in the process.  Matt was targeting next summer - we're going for September 2010.  I hope Matt would have had the good sense to suggest we complete the challenge as a relay or over a leisurely 2 weeks - We will be aiming for as many of the team as possible to complete all 900 odd miles of the route in 9 days!

 

Our two charities are Cardiac Risk in the Young (which aims to raise awareness of conditions which can lead to sudden cardiac death in young people) and the RNLI (which saves lives at sea and who's support we have thankfully never required, though Matt and crew were once offered it after a hairy incident, one rainy day in the Solent).  Both do fantastic work for people in need and more can be read about them on their respective websites.

PS - training is going well, though we haven't had chance to go out and train together yet - you are therefore spared the sight of a team photo in lycra! ... for now....
