The MPS Society provides specialist support to children, adults and families in the UK who are affected by MPS, Fabry and related lysosomal storage diseases and we fund research into treatment and therapies. These diseases are rare, genetic, life-limiting conditions with no cure.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Why am I running for the MPS Society? What actually is MPS?

Mucopolysaccharide (MPS) and Related Diseases are individually rare; culmulatively affecting 1:25,000 live births. One baby born every eight days will be diagnosed with an MPS or Related Disease. These multi-organ storage diseases cause progressive physical disability and in many cases, severe dengenerative mental deterioration resulting in death in childhood. Our daughter, Anabelle, was recently diagnosed with MPS 1 Hurlers Syndrome at just over a year old. She is currently having weekly enzyme replacement infusions at Great Ormond Street Hospital and is awaiting a bone marrow transplant. These are the only forms of treatment for this particular type of MPS.

The MPS Society is the only registered UK charity supporting families of around 1200 children and adulsts suffering from this rare and at present incurable group of diseases. nearly all of those affected will become progressively physically and , in most cases mentally disabled. the majority lose their life in childgood, through rapid progression of the diease. The MPS Society provides unique, tailored, one to one advocacy and support services to all individuals affected by MPS and Related Diseases, as well as their parents, siblings and other carers. The Society relies on voluntary donations and fundrasiing to continue this vital service.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
