Story
Paul and Lyndsay Zalkin are raising money in memory our beautiful sister, Dr Michelle Zalkin, to help fund the next round of scholarship awards for junior doctors who wish to take an MSc in Paediatrics and Child Health. To do so we'll be walking 60 miles along the West Highland way over the course of three days this coming in September.
At the age of just 40 Michelle's life, and her stellar career, were cut short after she lost her 5 year battle with cancer. Her memory burns bright and lives on in two wonderful children, Holly and Tom, both of whom are developing into exceptional young adults.
Michelle left behind a phenomenal professional legacy, having worked as leader in the field of child safeguarding and protection for the University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Indeed, after her death, clinical protocols which Michelle was instrumental in developing were adopted by the UCLH trust as an established
model for the training and management of child safeguarding.
Most of us will never be touched by horrendous issues which afflict a minority of children. However, Michelle lived and breathed those issues and her work made a real difference, improving the lives of her individual patients, whilst her legacy continues to make a difference by promoting the work of doctors and other professionals who look after some of the most vulnerable and at risk members of our society.
For those of you with children, please think about how fortunate they are and how awful if must be for those who suffer the consequences of abuse. Please given generously. For those of you without children, you must have loads of spare cash so again, please give generously.
Many thanks.
