Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
At the grand old age of 54, this is going to be quite a
challenge for me - I got ‘talked into it’ by my friend Annie who I work with on the Neonatal Unit at UHCW. Remember Rufus (RCN 1192076) is a charity set up by Annie’s close friends, Ceri and Billy in memory of their son Rufus, who was born sleeping on 11 October 2020 💙. So far, Remember Rufus have donated 30 Cuddle Cots across England and Wales and is also supporting the development of a much-needed Bereavement Suite at UHCW. So, in truth, I didn’t take much persuading as these are fantastic causes very close to my heart.
The CuddleCot has been internationally recognised across the world as significantly helping parents who suffer the loss of a baby. 1 in 4 pregnancies end in loss and on average, 15 babies are stillborn or die within 4 weeks of birth every single day in the UK. Dealing with the death of a baby is an incredibly difficult event for parents and without access to a cuddle cot, typically a baby can only stay with their parents for approximately 12 hours, which is heartbreaking. So, it is absolutely vital all hospitals have access to this equipment to give families the time they need to say goodbye to their precious children, either at hospital or at home.
In terms of the challenge of running a half marathon. I started training in the summer having never run more than 3 miles! I have been trying to increase my mileage through the winter (alongside playing hockey) and am now up to 8 miles but it’s REALLY starting to hurt so I figured that setting this up would give me the motivation I need to keep pushing on!
As we all know, NHS funding is extremely stretched and anything you can spare would be appreciated – if every one of my friends who have been following my training story, donated just £5, I would beat my target!!
Thank you xx
