Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Bertie would have been 3 months old today (14/10/19) it's also baby loss awareness week this week.
Albert was born at 41 weeks on the 14th July, weighing 8lb 5oz. 48 hours after he was born he was fighting for his life. Albert had developed something called Necrotising Enterocolitis (NEC)
NEC is a serious illness in which tissues in the intestine (gut) become inflamed and start to die. This can lead to a perforation developing, which allows the contents of the intestine to leak into the abdomen. Bertie had three holes and most of his gut had died.
Bertie had two operations to try and save him but after the second operation it was clear that the disease had spread and he was only being kept alive by life support machines. We were able to hold and cuddle him, and tell him how much we loved him, he slipped away peacefully in our arms at 5.30am on the 19th July.
We are constantly told how rare it is for a full term baby born at a healthy weight to get NEC and for it to come on so quickly and so seriously.
So in his memory I would like to raise some funds for the NEC charity to help better understand how and why it happens and how it can be prevented.
