Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my page. Those of you who know me well will know that I work for Helen and Douglas House - a fantastic charity providing amazing support, respite and end of life care to children and young people with life limiting illnesses, and their families. You can read more about the charity on this page below.
My job at Helen & Douglas House involves working with the siblings of the children and young people that access the hospice, and for some time now they've been telling me that they want to do something to raise money and give something back to the charity, which helps, or has helped their brother or sister.
I'm not sure how the idea of a canoe challenge came about, who came up with it, or how I somehow ended up volunteering to take part and 'supervise' the young people for the duration of the challenge, but as I've found myself in this position, it made sense to try and help them reach their fundraising target and get some sponsorship myself!
Myself and the 8 young people taking part in the challenge will be departing from Oxford on Wednesday 30th July and canoeing along the Thames over three full days, paddling up to 8 hours a day and covering over 50km in total, come rain or shine. We'll be stopping at camp sites along the Thames on the way, so it really is a full-on three day challenge!
Thanks for your support.
