Story

Hello :) I imagine most of you who have clicked the link to this page know me quite well, and are therefore aware that I would much rather spend my spare time sitting in my pyjamas watching 80s action movies and eating pie than do anything vaguely resembling exercise. In fact, those of you who know me very well should already be aware that I would rather cannulate my own eyeballs than go running.

Despite this, I have somehow been convinced to break with protocol and rise to the challenge of running quite a long way for a good cause.

The Susan Channon Trust is a Newcastle-based charity which was established in memory of a young mother and laboratory scientist at the RVI, who died of breast cancer when she was just 36 years old. It aims to enable healthcare professionals in the North East to access training in the most up-to-date surgical techniques and new cutting-edge technologies used in the treatment of breast cancer. Training courses for surgeons often cost thousands of pounds and this can make it difficult for trainees to access them, as the costs usually have to come out of their own pockets. Having spent 4 months working as a surgical trainee in the RVI's breast surgery department, I have been able to witness amazing new surgical techniques first-hand and now appreciate how valuable a charity like the Susan Channon Trust is in helping to train the surgeons of the future.

I have also met dozens of inspiring women who, as a result of the treatments we are able to offer, have not only kicked breast cancer's ass but also kept their confidence and quality of life. I have been genuinely moved and humbled by their stories and their strength. I have therefore come to the conclusion that, if they can beat cancer without whinging too much about it, then I should at least be able to man up and do a bit of running.

I am aiming to raise £150 for my charity and hope that I can rely on your support. Any money you donate through this site goes directly to them without any fuss - please remember to click "yes" for Gift Aid so they get a bit extra from the government. Thanks very much and big hugs to you all :)
