Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. In May 2013 I'll be running the Edinburgh Marathon to raise money for the Mark Wright Project.

Corporal Mark Wright was killed whilst serving in Afghanistan with the 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment (3 PARA).

Mark was posthumously awarded the George Cross for an act of "the greatest gallantry and complete disregard for his own safety in striving to save others."

Mark was awarded the George Cross for his bravery on 6 September 2006, in Afghanistan, when he entered a minefield in an extraordinary attempt to save the lives of critically-injured soldiers. Tragically, he lost his life during the incident.

The George Cross ranks with the Victoria Cross as the highest award in the UK for acts of gallantry.

The Mark Wright Project established as a charity in July 2009 with a very clear vision to support ex-service men and women, ALL branches of the Armed Forces, in addressing post-conflict issues, and to provide hands on, active and practical support to help ease their transition to civilian life.

The Mark Wright Project Centre in Dalkeith provides ex-service men and women with physical, social and recreational opportunities, and access to holistic therapies and counselling. It works collaboratively with existing veteran organisations and local and community organisations to ensure that ex-service men and women’s needs are addressed and met.

The Centre is dedicated to providing a person centred, relaxed and informal environment where ex-service men and women can freely and openly discuss their issues and concerns, and be actively supported in accessing information, advice and services from a wide range of specialist organisations.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Any and all donations appreciated.

Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So, please donate. Thank You.
