Story

We are pleased to announce that the law football team will be participating in our second annual ‘current v former players’ charity match. For those wishing to attend, the game will take place on Saturday the 10th of September @ Peffermill playing fields, kicking off at 10:30am Pitch 3G2.

All proceedings for the event will go to the Homeless Project Scotland a charity whose importance cannot be emphasised enough.

So here’s a little bit about them:

Homeless Project Scotland (HPS) are a charity who help the most vulnerable in our society by providing hot meals, warm blankets/sleeping bags, clothes, haircuts, toiletries, and mental health support across Scotland to those who could not otherwise afford this.

Providing Hot meals - The organisation has soup kitchens across Scotland serving 2,500 hot meals a week, (130,000 last year alone) to both the homeless and vulnerable families.

Food banks - by partnering with organisations such as Aldi, Lidl, greggs etc HPS are able to connect those all across the country to a continued source of food and water while simultaneously cutting down on food wastage.

Cash for kids - the charity has provided countless vouchers and supplements to families with children ensuring that kids don’t go hungry, and helping family households with heating and bills.

Preventative action -  This charity aims to stop homelessness at the source through a 24hr action line. Here vulnerable individuals at risk of homelessness can access help in regard to emergency accommodation, food banks, and what action to take. Further, by providing support, empathy and direction to individuals and families the charity has helped several previously on the street to forge a new life for themselves.

Providing Hygiene Packs - Each week 70 hygiene packs are provided to the homeless and vulnerable families, helping individuals who may not have access to facilities feel fresh and clean.

Help with addiction - since its inception the charity has provided not only physical and mental health support to those suffering from addiction, but also advocacy services which help to connect these individuals to the correct social services.

Why donate? -  Every day the HPS receives 40 referrals from local authorities in relation to rough sleepers and vulnerable families at risk of homelessness.  Over the winter it is projected that the cost of living crisis will worsen, putting more pressure on families to pay already soaring energy bills, increasing food prices, and in some cases increased rents. This will likely hit the most vulnerable in society, putting more pressure on those who are rough sleeping. and many more families (often with children) at risk. Were it not for this organisation those individuals would not have access to the basic provisions that keep them going.

Currently, the charity is looking for a new operating premises. Sadly, in the last year the HPS has seen a soaring demand for their services across the country, and currently does not have enough space to store their food and other provisions. Therefore, by supporting this charity you will not only be providing support to those who need it most - you might be helping an amazing organisation continue to operate.

Please consider donating and/or sharing.

Thank you x
