Story

10/10/10 Update - After the Race!

Good Lordy I did it - race time of 02:21:29.  Despite the self-diagnosed posterior shin splints and as a result, a break from any running for two weeks prior to the race, the shins held out and I managed to complete the whole course with no stopping or walking.

The last 2 miles were incredibly tough and by this time my legs felt like lead, but as a friend once said "Pain is temporary - glory is for ever!" and with that in mind, I hobbled on.

If you are visiting this page for the first time and would like to donate, you can still do so.  Huge thanks once again to all those who contributed to raising money for CHICKS - it's very much appreciated.

Thanks for visiting my donation page for the Royal Parks Half Marathon taking place in October 2010.

Some time ago I decided I should do something about my general fitness so bought some overpriced trainers, a kit to run in and tentatively took to the road.  My first feeble attempt wasn’t great – I ended up doubled over with a stitch and gasping for breath, but I gradually built up my stamina and made ‘going for a run’ a regular and relatively enjoyable routine.

However, one thing seems to have lead to another and I am now committing myself to complete a half marathon – 21km or 13.1miles - in about 4 weeks.  I’d also wish to be able to do so in a decent time.  Considering the longest official race I’ve run is around half that distance (10km) and the longest distance I’ve run to date at the time of writing is 12km (which was a good while ago and before a very lazy holiday) I’ve got a lot of work to do and not that long to do it.

I will be running to raise money for a well deserved charity called CHICKS (http://www.chicks.org.uk/) and if your wallets feel motivated enough to support me in this physical challenge, it would be hugely appreciated.

CHICKS (Country Holidays for Inner City Kids) is a children's charity that aims to provide life enhancing respite breaks to as many disadvantaged children as possible at one of their centres in Devon or Cornwall.

The children CHICKS support come from a variety of backgrounds – those living in poverty, children that are being neglected or abused, either mentally, physically or sexually, children who have lost their parents or even children who are full time young carers.

So please dig deep and donate now and in the mean time, I'll keep on running.
