Story

We have set up this page in memory of our son Liam. Liam was stillborn on Saturday 14 December 2019. On Thursday 12 December we got the devastating news that Liam had died; this was 40 weeks and 6 days into our pregnancy.  We had heard his heart beating just the day before. We’d spent 9 months getting ready to bring our little boy home and knowing that would never happen was utterly heart-breaking. Our lives were turned upside down at that moment.

This page is to raise money in Liam’s memory for the Jessop Wing Appeal to create a new Bereavement Suite for parents and families who have experienced baby loss: https://www.sheffieldhospitalscharity.org.uk/appeal/jessopsappeal

The care we received, led by the midwife team, during the 3 days we spent on the Jessop Wing for Liam’s birth was truly wonderful and inspirational. It showed us tiny glimmers of light at the darkest possible time. This page is therefore also in recognition of the incredible skill, care and compassion of the midwife team who cared for us when we needed it the most. The appeal aims to provide a new Bereavement Suite that will create an environment worthy of the care provided by the wonderful people at Jessops, it is an extremely worthy cause and one that has become really close to our hearts.

We hope that this page can kick start raising some money in Liam’s name for this wonderful cause. We hope to arrange/take part in some activities in honour of Liam as the year goes on. Nothing has been finalised yet but we’re planning a memorial walk and may even come out of half-marathon retirement!

For our son Liam James Shiels, loved and remembered.
