Story
What
We are cycling from Whitehaven, on the west coast, to Tynemouth on the east coast of England. That is a journey of around 150 miles (240km) cross country. The challenge will take 2 days and will begin on June 26th 2010.
Why
So why are we doing this?... My mum was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML) in 2007 and although she is doing well on her current medication we recently found out that (potentially) this medication will no longer be funded through the NHS. The medication gives sufferers of CML a fighting chance, and has worked well for my mum, withdrawing this medication from others in her situation is not giving them a chance. We therefore are undertaking this challenge to raise valuable funds for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research (LLR) and to raise the profile of the plight of CML suffers. The money we raise will go towards helping the projects LLR support in Nottinghamshire, where my mum is treated. They currently have 6 projects underway which include studies and clinical trials into many forms of blood cancer which could prove life saving to suffers of CML in the future.
Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, which is the only charity in the UK dedicated exclusively to researching blood cancers and disorders.
Anyone, at any age can be diagnosed with a blood cancer - 24,500 people
in the UK are diagnosed every year and Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research is
committed to giving every one of them the best chance of survival.
