Event: The Chris Hoy Edinburgh Half Marathon 2010, on 18 April 2010
We keep funding the search for answers to ensure no life is cut short by cancer

Story

On Sunday 18th April I will be running the Chris Hoy Edinburgh Half Marathon for AICR, the Association for International Cancer Research, which is based in St Andrews: AICR has just celebrated its 30th birthday with an International Scientific Conference in St Andrews.  AICR raises money to fund the best cancer research all over the world (a team of scientists give their time voluntarily to pick the best applicants for research funding.)  The charity gives out millions of pounds each year.

Why AICR?  So many of us have been touched by the big C, or know someone who has.  I ran my first London Marathon for AICR in 1999 and James is now Chairman of AICR so the connection goes back some way and is continuing.

I am late in fund-raising as I haven't run for a while and have had to be convinced that I can do it!  James had planned to join me, but has an ankle injury and will be a reluctant spectator.

I haven't used Just Giving before but am hoping that this will work.  I am hoping to send it to everyone on my email address list - some of you may be donating to AICR already through the Fife Reelers Ball, so no need to donate twice!

Just Giving say that their system is simple and totally secure. Your details are safe – they undertake never to sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate.
