Story
Hello, and welcome to Lindsay and Richard’s fundraising page.
Lindsay has been a little obsessed with the London Marathon since she was a small child, and each year has religiously watched the event in awe and excitement from the comfort of her sofa. This year, the Olympic year no less, that changes; on 22 April 2012 Lindsay will be running the London Marathon, and has duly decided to take Richard along for the ride too.
It’s fair to say that our training has not been particularly smooth and there have been a number of hurdles thrown in along the way, not least illness, work trips abroad, a strained IT Band and two sprained ankles. These hurdles combined with a mutual love of food, a penchant for wine/beer, and an occasional lack of motivation (remember those freezing temperatures in January?!), have meant that the journey has been far tougher than expected; we can just about remember an excited conversation about ‘what fun it would be to run a marathon’ when we filled in our application forms over nine months ago *bangs head on desk*.
Nevertheless we’re still on course to get round the 26.2 mile route in one piece (or thereabouts), and the charity that we’re raising money for provides great motivation for us to do so.
The British Heart Foundation (BHF) funds research, education, care and awareness campaigns aimed to prevent heart disease. Impressive work when you consider that in 2009 over 180,000 people in the UK died from cardiovascular disease - that’s one in three of all deaths that year. In addition, coronary heart disease is the most common cause of death in the under 75s in the UK.
In recent years we’ve had our own experience of just how important the BHF’s work is, and we would hugely appreciate any sponsorship that you can give; whether big or small, it all counts towards a great cause.
Many thanks for your support, it will no doubt be a great motivator as we plod along the undulating course at the end of April
Love from Lindsay and Richard.
