Story

After successfully completing the amazing Mongol Rally in 2006, Finishing in 13th out of 200 cars driving from London to Mongolia, my life, I have decided needs constant challenging and craves uncertainty..

So bored and in a panic I signed up fellow mad man Mark and myself on an equally if not more dangerous challenge than the last.

This adventure is named the Mototaxi Junket.

The Mototaxi Junket and the Search for the Lost City of Asuncion (But Not Really Because it's the Capital of Paraguay)

What's all this about?

Take the smallest and least practical vehicle available in an entire continent and throw it at some of the most ridiculous and least hospitable terrain on our good earth. From the driest desert in the world, to the most dangerous road in the world, to the biggest rainforest in the world the Mototaxi Junket is rarefied adventure in a handy 2 week-so-you-won't-get-fired punch in the guts.

The machine of choice is the humble Mototaxi. Invented in Peru and not really perfected anywhere. Built from a motorbike and a few bits of pipe these hardy little ferrets are designed for pootling around the back streets of cities. Which makes them perfect for dirt tracks, waist high mud, the Andes and sand dunes.

Starting in Peru and finishing up in Asunción, the difficult side of the Chaco region around 4000km later. The adventure kicks off with a party on the24th of October and finishes, with another night of fine revelry in Asunción the capital of Paraguay on the 7th of November. Is it possible to get so far in such small machines over such completely ridiculous terrain? Who knows, but that is exactly why you need to help us find out.

The Most Excellent Mototaxi

Imagine a motorbike. Then imagine a smaller one. Then cut it in half and stick a not terribly comfy sofa on the back.

With three wheels, a throbbing heart of 124.01cc, steering that works faultlessly in straight lines, and brakes that slow you down gently. The Mototaxi is the perfect vehicle for thundering across some of the most remote terrain on the South American continent, crossing the Andes and driving along the most dangerous road in the world.

Based on a Honda 125 city sort of bike, and then pimped out with enough room for your mum and her pet donkey the Mototaxi re-defines modern travel in the 21st century. Feel the luxury of the plastic seats. Experience the thrill of driving slightly faster than you can walk. In fact, experience the thrill of walking along side the Mototaxi on any slight incline.

We have a fleet of Mototaxis waiting for you to get your greasy adventure mitts on. All you need to do is get yourself to the start line and we will hand you the keys to your little piece of motoring genius.

The Stats...

Engine Size: 125ish ccEngine Type: Single cylinder, 4 stroke, air cooledHorse Power: Equ. of 7 family dogsLoad: Perfect for you, a lightweight team mate and very little luggageDrive Chain: 3 x 1 chain drivenBrakes: Drum brakesTop Speed: 1 kmph (up hill) 70ish kmph (down hill or flat)

Amazonion rainforest and deserty sandy stuff

After insufficient testing and an underwhelming amount of planning the world's first Mototaxi Junket and the search for lost city of Asuncion (but not really because it's the capital of Paraguay) un-route has been un-planned.

Starting in the deserty hills of Peru the unroute takes us and our Mototaxi through the high Andes. A ridiculous feat for a machine ill-equipped for the flat, after that we can take any number of routes. Lying in wait is everything you could ever want from an adventure. Squelch right through the Amazonian rainforest on dirt tracks, float across the biggest salt flats in the world, thunder through the driest desert in the world, through the highest capital city in the world, along the most dangerous road in the world, and through one of the most remote wildernesses in the continent, the Chaco. A place so vast and empty they have a prison without walls since there is nowhere to escape to... And to make it just that little bit harder you only have two weeks and you are not permitted to drive the mighty Mototaxi on highways.
