Why do I want to run 26.2 miles around London for the Alzheimer's Society?!

Simple...it has been just over 10 years between my Mum being diagnosed with 'early-onset' Alzheimer's and her going into full-time care early last year.

She is still only 68 years old and she no longer knows who I am.

The day when my beloved Mum asked me 'do I know you?' was the day I realised I had 'lost' her to this awful disease. Having slowly come to terms with this, I needed to do something positive towards fighting this disease ...running has always been a part of my life so I'm using it to raise money and awareness.

The Alzheimer's Society not only undertakes research for cure and prevention, but is also the leading support charity for people with dementia, their families and carers:-

- there are 800,000 people with dementia in the UK, with numbers set to rise to one million by 2021

- 17,000 are younger people

- 2/3rds of people with dementia are women

- 2/3rds of people with dementia live in the community

- there are 670,000 carers of people with dementia who save the UK over £8 billion a year....!

This challenge is extremely personal and I would not be running for any other charity. I will only be doing this once (!!), so your support would be greatly appreciated.

Your money will be in good hands too! 88p of every £1 is spent on direct costs towards improving the lives of people with dementia - this is one of the highest of any charity.
