Story

This year I will be doing a 2 mile run dressed in a festive santa suit and then Chelsea-Mae will also be joining me dressed as santa for a 2 mile walk around the village in order to raise money for this amazing charity which is very close to our hearts.

In November 2020 during the covid lockdown while we all had covid Chelsea-Mae got rushed into Burton hospital very poorly and after blood tests got immediately transfered to the ICU at Queens medical centre in Nottingham. After a number of tests she was diagnosed with endocarditis which was possibly a complication from the small hole in her heart she was born with and was put on a number of intravenous antibiotics every 4 hours. She was slowly improving each day until after 2 weeks she took a turn for the worse and was transfered to Glenfield in Leicester which is one of the specialist units in the UK for children with poorly hearts.

After our worst very scary and worrying times Chelsea-Mae all together spent over 8 weeks in hospital which included Christmas and a further 2 weeks having to travel back everyday for intravenous antibiotics. Last year she then underwent open heart surgery to close the hole in the hope that this will not affect her again. We could not thank all the NHS staff enough for their life saving work!

Glenfield is where we first discovered the charity Keep the Beat. With the daily blood tests and cannulas which is difficult for anyone let alone a 3 year old, something simple like a plaster with hello kitty or peppa pig made it just that little bit easier which this amazing charity donates to the unit. On our stay over Christmas we were amazed to find outside our door a hamper full of goodies and a £100 voucher for Chelsea-Mae to spend when she was better with a little note from Keep the Beat to wish us well.

Their hard work, genoristy and support shown for us and the other families going through difficult times was absolutely amazing and I would like to be able to contribute to their fundraising events to say thankyou and to hopefully help raise money for families and children who may need their support in the future.
