We fund research, provide support, campaign to bring more than hope to those affected.

Story

I am running the 10K on Sunday 12th September 2010.  For those of you who know me, you know I hate running, despite doing the odd 5K for Cancer research.  So this 10K will be quite a challenge for me.

Pancreatic cancer is the 11th most common cancer in the , and yet

·  The one-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer has more than doubled since the 1970s, however the rate is still low with only around 16-17% of patients surviving their disease.

·  Around 3% of pancreatic cancer patients survive the disease for five years or more.

That's right 3%.  We have to do something about these odds!  Patrick Swayze had this, and he lived 2 years.  And he had the best treatment out there.  So research into this horrible condition needs funding desperately.

Personally I am choosing this charity as my mum (Caroline) died from pancreatic cancer.  She lived 18 months with it, although it was not until the last 5 did we have a diagnosis.  There was no treatment as hers was inoperable.

One thing my Mum has taught me is strength in the face of adversity.  Despite knowing she was dying and being in unbearable pain.  She sorted out her affairs and tried to prepare her family for her death.  Never moaned about pain, never wallowed in self pity.  And for this reason I owe it to her to help do something about this disease.

So please dig deep.

Thank you all

It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with the deadliest common cancer die within three months. That’s why they need and deserve more. More research, more funding, more breakthroughs. More than hope. Together we’ll make that possible.
